Bordertown
Bordertown ★½ 2006 (R)
Generic thriller based on a true story. Ambitious Chicago journalist Lauren (Lopez) is assigned to write about a series of rape/ murders that have happened to young women in Juarez, Mexico. She hooks up with former colleague Alfonso (Banderas), whose persistence on covering the crimes has him in trouble with authorities. Lauren meets Eva (Zapata), who is in hiding after surviving her attack, and it is implied that the victims are all poor workers at factories making goods for the U.S. market. The politics muddies a story that, unfortunately, hasn't been compellingly told. 112m/C DVD . Jennifer Lopez, Antonio Banderas, Maya Zapata, Sonia Braga, Martin Sheen; D: Gregory Nava; W: Gregory Nava; C: Reynaldo Vil-lalobos; M: Graeme Revell.
