A French stage star and a pioneer of the café-theatre movement, Bulle Ogier made her film debut in L'Amour fou (1968) and subsequently found a niche interpreting unconventional roles in the films of the French New Wave. She appeared in Luis Buñuel's surreal fable The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972) and was notable as the compassionate dominatrix in Barbet Schroeder's Mistress (1976). Ogier's daughter, Pascale Ogier , also an actress, died at age 24, shortly after winning the Best Actress award at Cannes for her role in Les Nuits de la Pleine Lune (Full Moon in Paris, 1984).
