German princess. Name variations: Marie de Swabia; Marie von Hohenstaufen. Born around 1201 in Constantinople; died in 1235; daughter of Irene Angela of Byzantium (d. 1208) and Philip of Swabia (c. 1176–1208), Holy Roman emperor (r. 1198–1208); sister of Beatrice of Swabia (1198–1235) and Cunigunde of Hohenstaufen ; became first wife of Henry II (1207–1248), duke of Brabant (r. 1235–1248), before August 22, 1215; children: Maude of Brabant (1224–1288); Henry III (b. 1233), duke of Brabant (r. 1248–1261). Henry II's second wife was Sophia of Thuringia (1224–1284).
