Duchess of Orléans . Name variations: Mary of Cleves; Marie de Clèves; Anne de Cleves; Anne of Cleves. Born in 1426; died in 1486 (some sources cite 1487); daughter of Adolph or Adolf IV, duke of Cleves; became third wife of Charles Valois (1391–1465), duke of Orléans, in 1441; children: Louis XII (1462–1515), king of France (r. 1498–1515); Marie of Orleans (d. 1493, who married Jean de Foix, comte d'Etampes); Anne of Orleans (d. 1491), abbess of Fontevrault. Charles' first wife was Isabella of Valois (1389–c. 1410); his second was Bonne of Armagnac (d. 1415).
