Countess of Flanders and Hainault . Name variations: Maria of Champagne; Mary of Champagne. Born around 1180; died during an epidemic while on crusade in 1203; daughter of Marie de Champagne (1145–1198) and Henry I, count of Champagne; married Baudouin also known as Baldwin IX (1171–1206), count of Flanders and Hainault (crowned Baldwin I of Constantinople), in 1186; children: Johanna of Flanders (c. 1200–1244), countess of Belgium; Margaret of Flanders (1202–1280).
