German writer and translator. Name variations: Sibylle von Braunschweig-Luneburg; Sibylle of Brunswick-Luneburg. Born in 1629 in Braunschweig-Lüneburg (Germany); died in childbirth in 1671; daughter of August the Younger, duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg; stepdaughter ofSophie Elisabeth von Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1613–1676); married in 1663; children: four.

Sibylle Ursula was born into the ducal family of Braunschweig-Lüneburg, in modern Germany. She revealed an unusual talent for languages and scholarship at an early age, and was given a thorough classical education by her stepmother, the duchess Sophie Elisabeth. Sibylle Ursula, who did not marry until she was 34, devoted the years prior to marriage to composing poetry, translating foreign works into German, and writing plays. Among her more significant work is a novel, Aramena, which was completed after her death by her siblings. She also composed tracts on her Protestant religious beliefs and was recognized for her excellent translations of French literary works. Sibylle died in childbirth.
