Beatrix da Silva (1424–1490)

Spanish saint. Born in 1424; died in 1490.

Beatrix da Silva was said to be so beautiful that she had to escape the Spanish court to ward off admirers. In 1484, she founded the order of the Conceptionists, in honor of the Virgin Mary. At first, the order followed the Cistercian rule before adopting that of St. Francis of Assisi in 1511.
