Aubry, Cécile (1929—)
French actress. Born Anne-Marie-José Bénard in Paris, France, on August 3, 1929; married a Moroccan prince (later divorced).
Following her meteoric rise in 1949, the petite Cécile Aubry made few films. She was discovered by Henri-Georges Clouzot and cast in his highly popular film Manon, based on a modernization of Abbé Prévost's 18th-century novel Manon Lescaut. Aubry played the title character who is condemned by local villagers for her affair with a Resistance fighter played by Michel Auclair. (The movie was later remade as Manon 70 with Catherine Deneuve .) Cécile Aubry's other films include The Black Rose (United States, 1950), Barbe-Bleu (Bluebeard, 1951), Bonjour la Chance (1954), and The Reluctant Thief (Italian, 1955). After her marriage, she went on to write and illustrate children's books and produce for children's television.
