Sabalsajaray, Nibuya (1951–1974)

Uruguayan labor activist. Name variations: Nibuya Sabalsagaray. Born in Uruguay, 1951; died in Uruguay, 1974.

Became school teacher and joined labor union; after participating in a large demonstration opposing the dictatorship, was arrested and tortured; died, age 23, as a result of her injuries. Revered as a martyr to the government's violent opposition toward the unionization movement of the 1970s.
