Won New Zealand Cross-Country championship at age 18; won Boston Marathon and NY City Marathon (1981); also won the Peachtree 10k Race; won New Zealand championships in cycle and triathlon. Named Member of the British Empire (MBE); won the Abebe Bakila Award (2002).
