Richter, Marga (1926–)

American composer. Born in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Oct 21, 1926; dau. of Paul Richter and Inez (Chandler) Richter (soprano); studied piano at Juilliard School under Rosalyn Tureck and composition with William Bergsma and Vincent Persichetti; m. Alan Skelly (professor of philosophy), 1953; children: Michael and Maureen.

Was one of the youngest composers to have her compositions programmed on the Composers Forum series in NY; began to compose Landscapes of the Mind I (1968) and produced 6 other major works in a 10-year period, which were increasingly performed internationally.
