American marathon runner. Born Dec 27, 1936; died Mar 6, 2000, in Mill Valley, CA; m. Gary Loverman.
After being rejected by Boston Marathon because of gender, helped smash the men-only barrier in long-distance running by integrating the Dipsea Race in Marin County (1966) and the San Francisco's Bay to Breakers (1967); also ran in the 1st race open to women in Boston Marathon (1972).
