McLean, Mary Jane (1866–1949)
New Zealand school principal. Born April 4, 1866, at Timaru, New Zealand; died Feb 9, 1949, in Wellington; dau. of Duncan McLean (physician and surgeon), and Ann (le Ber) McLean; Montfleuri Girls' School, BA, 1888, MA, 1890.
Appointed 1st assistant teacher of Timaru High School (1890); served as principal of Timaru Girls' High School (1898–1926); was a significant figure in establishment of Wellington East Girls' College (1925). Named Commander of the British Empire (1928).
