American speedskater. Name variations: Catherine Klein; Kit Klein-Outland. Born Catherine Klein, Mar 28, 1910, in Buffalo, NY; died April 13, 1985, in Holmes Beach, Fl; dau. of Adam Klein; m. George Nichols (boxer), 1933 (annulled); m. Dr. Thomas Outland, 1936.
Won the 1st women's overall World championship in speedskating (1936), one of only 2 Americans to win that title in the 20th century; won demonstration gold (1,500 meters) and bronze medals (500 meters) at Lake Placid Olympics (1932); was the 2nd woman to grace a Wheaties box.
