Japanese fashion designer. Born 1942 in Tokyo, Japan; graduate in fine art, Keio University, 1964.
Modernist, worked at Asahikasei Textile Co.; founded the label, Comme de Garçons (1973); held 1st Paris show (1981), creating shock with her minimalist style, use of asymmetry, austere mood, and rejection of traditional couture methods.
