Chinese diver. Born Aug 16, 1978, in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
Won 1st World championship title (1991), the youngest world champion ever (age 12); at Barcelona Olympics, won a gold medal in platform (1992), the youngest Olympic champion ever (age 13); at World championships, won the 10-meter platform gold (1993, 1994) and 3-meter springboard gold (1995); at Atlanta Olympics, won gold medals for 10-meter platform and 3-meter springboard (1996), the 1st woman to win both titles since Ingrid Engel-Kramer, 36 years earlier; at Sydney Olympics, won a gold medal for 3-meter springboard and a silver medal for synchronized 3-meter springboard (2000).
