Social Liberal, was a member of the Folketing (1973–77, 1979–94), serving as minister for the Environment (1988–90), and a member of the Danish delegation to the UN (1984, 1987, and 1992); as a member of the European Liberal, Democrat and Reform Party, elected to 4th and 5th European Parliament (1994–99, 1999–2004). Awarded European gold medal for building preservation (1991).
