American YWCA leader. Born Mabel Cratty, June 30, 1868, in Bellaire, Ohio; died Feb 27, 1928, in New York, NY; dau. of Charles Campbell Cratty and Mary (Thoburn) Cratty; niece of Isabella Thoburn (Methodist missionary in India); Ohio Wesleyan, BL, 1890.
Concerned with problems facing young working women, immigrants, and minorities, served as general secretary of National Board of YWCA (c. 1906–28); worked to make YWCA a force for social and economic reform.
