Carnachan, Blanche Eleanor (1871–1954)
New Zealand teacher. Born Nov 23, 1871, in Cambridge, Waikato, New Zealand; died, Mar 22, 1954, in Auckland, New Zealand; dau. of David Carnachan and Elizabeth (Friars) Carnachan.
Taught at Goodwood School and at Parnell School (early 1900s); began teaching at Epsom School (1917); served as executive member of New Zealand Educational Institute and New Zealand Women Teachers' Association; after retirement, worked with deaf and intellectually handicapped children; became president of Auckland After-care Association, which reorganized as Institute for Care of Backward Children and later became Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society. Awarded British Empire Medal (1940).
