American writer. Born c. 1947 in Libertyville, Illinois; 2nd oldest of 7 children of James (advertising executive) and Dorothy Cameron; graduate of Georgetown University; m. Martin Scorsese (film director), Dec 30, 1975 (div. c. 1978); m. Mark Bryan (div. 1993); children: Domenica Cameron-Scorsese (b. 1976, actress and writer).

Poet, playwright, fiction writer, and essayist, wrote for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice; wrote the bestselling The Artist's Way (1992); other writings include the detective novel The Dark Room.
