Bauld, Alison (1944–)

Australian composer, singer and actress. Born 1944 in Sydney, Australia; studied piano with Alexander Sverjensky at New South Wales Conservatorium of Music; studied drama at National Institute of Dramatic Art; University of York, PhD in composition; married with 2 children.

Worked as actress in theater, tv, and radio; traveled to UK to study with Elisabeth Lutyens and Hans Keller; also wrote music for Royal Ballet, Scottish Workshop, and London Contemporary Dance Company; became music director of Laban Centre for Dance at London University, worked briefly in Sydney, and returned to London; received several commissions from BBC; works include On the Afternoon of the Pigsty (1971), Pumpkin 2 (1973), Exiles (1974), The Baker's Story (1978), and Once Upon a Time (1986); noted for dramatic structure and effective combination of musical forms in compositions.
