Bates, Vietta M. (1922–1972)

American soldier. Born June 11, 1922; died July 1972; lived in New Jersey.

Enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC, Mar 1945); when WAAC became part of the regular army (June 1949), was the 1st woman sworn into the Women's Army Corps (WAC, July 8, 1949); assigned to duty with the Military District of Washington, DC.
