Babashoff, Shirley (1957–)
American swimmer. Born Shirley Frances Babashoff, Jan 31, 1957, in Whittier, California.
Won silver medals for the 200-meter and 100-meter freestyle and a gold medal for the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay at Munich Olympics (1972); won silver medals for the 200-meter, 400-meter, and 800-meter freestyle and 4 × 100-meter relay and a gold medal for the 4 × 100-meter relay at Montreal Olympics (1976); won 27 national championships; won World championships for 200- and 400-meter freestyle (1975). Inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame and US Olympic Hall of Fame.
