Anderson, Evelyn (1907–1994)

African-American dancer. Born in 1907; died of pneumonia, Oct 29, 1994, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The last surviving member of La Revue Nègre, returned to America after the group disbanded (1926) but continued to visit Europe often; was detained by the Nazis (1941) and held for 3 years, 1st in a Dutch internment camp, then in a German convent; was eventually released as part of a prisoner-exchange program with US.
