Thymaridas of Paros

c. 400-c. 350 b.c.

Greek mathematician known for his work on Pythagorean number theory. Thymaridas described prime numbers as "rectilinear" because they could only be represented as one-dimensional segments, whereas a figure such as 8 equated to a rectangle of 2 units by 4 units. He also developed a method of solving simultaneous linear equations called the "flower of Thymaridas."
