Mary Ellen Rudin

1924-

American mathematician who received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1949. She held teaching positions at Duke University, the University of Rochester, and the University of Wisconsin, where she served until her retirement. Her research interests centered upon set-theoretic topology, with an emphasis on the construction of counter examples, authoring nearly 70 papers on the subject. In addition to raising a family of four children, she was the recipient of numerous professional awards and a member of many mathematical associations.
