Lemuel Clyde McGee
1902-
American biochemist who performed important research into the chemistry of various digestive enzymes. McGee's research into gastrointestinal function and the chemistry of jejunal juices helped lay the foundation for all subsequent research into the functioning of the digestive tract. In other work, McGee examined the role of toxins in the work place, helping establish the fields of toxicology and industrial medicine.
