Jean de Locquenghien

Flemish engineer, sometimes known as Jan van Locquenghien, who designed the most significant canal in Belgium. In 1561, work was completed on Locquenghien's Willebroek Canal, which gave Brussels access to the North Sea by way of Antwerp, some 30 miles (48 km) to the north.
