Hieronymous Georg Zeuthen
Hieronymous Georg Zeuthen
1839-1920
Danish mathematician best known for his studies of medieval and ancient Greek mathematics. In addition to his historical studies, Zeuthen made important discoveries in algebraic geometry, developing the enumerative calculus first proposed by Michel Chasles. However, the movement of geometry towards mathematical rigor caused this work to be overlooked for many years until some of the more interesting results were later verified.
