Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne
1806-1875
French physician and neurologist noted for his research on muscular diseases, and for pioneering the use of electricity in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Duchenne was credited with discovering several neuromuscular disorders, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), named after him; DMD is a degenerative disorder of the spinal cord which can lead to paralysis in its victims. Duchenne also pioneered the use of electronic stimuli in the treatment of muscle dysfunction.
