Chang Ts'ang

d. 152 b.c.

Chinese mathematician sometimes credited as author of the Chiu-chang Suan-shu or Jiuzhang Suanshu (Nine chapters of mathematical art). The latter, the oldest known Chinese mathematical text, contained 246 problems, which as the title suggested were presented in nine chapters. Some four centuries after Chang Ts'ang, Liu Hui (fl. c. 263) wrote a famous commentary on the "Nine Chapters."
