Benedictus Crispus

Italian scholar whose Commentarium medicinale contained extensive information on medicinal herbs. Benedictus, who served as archbishop of Milan, wrote the Commentarium, an elementary manual in verse form, in about 700. The book discusses a variety of plants, and their uses in treating illnesses.
