Xylocarpus (family Meliaceae) A genus of mangrove forest trees which have big, spreading buttresses. The fruit is a large, spherical capsule. The seed has a corky testa, adapted thereby to water dispersal. The trees yield a valuable cabinet timber. There are 3 species, occurring in the Old World tropics from E. Africa to the Pacific.
