Woodsia (family Aspleniaceae) A genus of small ferns, characterized by a short rhizome, very scaly frond undersides, and orbicular sori on the undersides of the leaves, with an indusium surrounding the base of the sorus, which is either split into hair-like segments from the beginning, or starts as a cup, splitting into hair-like segments later. There are 21 species, occurring in the Arctic and in northern temperate mountain regions.
