Wahlenbergia (Australian bluebell; family Campanulaceae) A genus of small herbs with alternate or opposite leaves which are sometimes toothed. The blue, solitary flowers are held on long stalks with 5 sepals, and a 5-lobed, bell-shaped corolla. There are 5 stamens, and a 3-lobed stigma. The capsule is urnshaped, and splits into 3 to release the numerous, very fine seeds. Many species are annuals, and many are cultivated. There are about 150 species found especially in southern temperate regions.
