Veliferidae (veil-fish; subclass Actinopterygii, order Lampridiformes) A small family of deep-bodied, marine fish, that have long and high, multi-rayed, dorsal and anal fins, and a strongly forked tail fin. The mouth is small, but highly protractile. There are three species inhabiting the deeper waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
