Strigiformes
Strigiformes (owls; class Aves) An order of small to large, mostly nocturnal, birds of prey which have large heads with large, forward-facing eyes, short necks, and short, strong, hooked bills. Their wings are broad and rounded with soft tips for silent flight, their tails short to medium-length, and their legs short to long, with zygodactylous toes. They inhabit forest, open country, grassland, and desert, feed on fish, mammals, birds, and insects, and nest in tree cavities or burrows. There are two families, Strigidae and Tytonidae, found world-wide.
