1. An age in the Early Permian Epoch, preceded by the Asselian, followed by the Artkinsian, and dated at 281.5–268.8 Ma ( Harland et al., 1989). Originally it was regarded as the basal Permian age, incorporating the Asselian Age, from which it is now separated.

2. The name of the corresponding eastern European stage, which is roughly contemporaneous with parts of the Rotliegende (western Europe), the upper Wolfcampian (N. America), and the upper Somoholoan (New Zealand).
