oyster fungus The edible fruit body of Pleurotus ostreatus. The pileus is more or less shell-shaped, and variable in colour from bluish-grey to yellowish-brown. The whitish gills are strongly decurrent, anastomosing near the base. The fungus is typically found in clusters on trunks, tree-stumps, etc., and is common throughout the year.
