offlap A conformable sequence of inclined strata, deposited during a marine regression, in which each stratum is succeeded laterally by progressively younger units, marking the direction in which the sea retreated. Compare OVERLAP. See also OVERSTEP; and SEISMIC STRATIGRAPHY.
