Nafe—Drake relationship An empirical relationship between the P-wave velocity and density of water-saturated sediments and sedimentary rocks. It is commonly used to evaluate the density of sedimentary rocks in shallow seismic surveys, but errors of the order of 100 kg/m3 are involved. See also DENSITY OF ROCKS.
