magnetochronology Geochronological system that is based on geomagnetic polarity reversals. As no theory yet specifies the existence and duration of separate geomagnetic/polarity intervals, a true magnetochronology is said not to exist. See also MAGNETOSTRATIGRAPHIC TIME-SCALE.
