Latridae (trumpeter; subclass Actinopterygii, order Perciformes) A small family of marine fish that have a somewhat elongate body shape, a small mouth with sharp teeth, the dorsal fin with a deep notch between the spinous and soft-rayed parts, and many rays (usually more than 30) in the second dorsal and anal fins. The pectoral and pelvic fins are small, and the tail fin is forked. There are about 10 species, found in southern Australia, New Zealand, and Chile.
