Jubaea
Jubaea (family Palmae) A monotypic genus, comprising J. chilensis (spectabilis), the Chilean wine palm, which is the southernmost of all palms. Very hardy, it has probably the stoutest of palm trunks, 1.2–1.8 m diameter. The leaves are pinnate, their bases persistent. It is monoecious. The tree is felled for its sugary sap (it yields up to 3001) which makes a honey or wine, and it is now rare.
