Fulgoridae (lantern flies; order Hemiptera, suborder Homoptera) Family of bugs, many of which are large and brightly coloured. In a number of genera the front of the head is produced into a hollow horn which was once believed erroneously to be luminous in some species, giving rise to the common name for the group. There are a few hundred species, most of which occur in the tropics.
