-etum A suffix used in the Zurich–Montpellier phytosociological scheme to denote a community of association rank. It is applied to the generic name of the most characteristic species, i.e. that which differentiates the association from others in the same alliance. A heathland community typified by Calluna vulgaris thus becomes a Callunetum. See also DIFFERENTIAL SPECIES.
