Dictyosperma (family Palmae) A monotypic genus, D. album (the princess palm), which is very widely cultivated and of similar general appearance to Archontophoenix alexandrae. The trunk is solitary and prominently hoop-marked and the leaves are pinnate with a conspicuous green crown-shaft below which appear the pendulous, simply branched inflorescences, at first enclosed in a large, broad, flat spathe. It is native to Mauritius and the Rodrigues Islands, in the southwestern Indian Ocean.
