Desfontainea (family Loganiaceae) A monotypic genus (D. spinosa) of bushes that have small, holly-like leaves and scarlet, tubular flowers. It occurs from Costa Rica to Cape Horn, is the national flower of Bolivia, and is sometimes cultivated in Britain.
