demultiplexing The reordering of a magnetic tape to allow a computer to commence the processing of multiplexed (see MULTIPLEXING) data. The data samples are rearranged into trace-sequential format, i.e. all the samples for channel 1 are followed by those for channel 2,…, followed by those for channel n.
