chevron fold (accordion fold, zig-zag fold) A type of fold which shows characteristically long, planar limbs with a short, angular hinge zone. Ideal chevron folds have interlimb angles of 60°. Chevron folds occur in sequences of regularly bedded layers of alternating competent and incompetent material which deform by flexural slip and ductile flow respectively.
